Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are used to help improve the appearance of your skin for many different reasons. When done in a series, chemical peels can be effective in treating pigment, acne scarring, anti-aging concerns and help to maintain an overall bright, healthy glow to your skin. During a chemical peel, a solution is applied to the skin which may cause the skin to exfoliate and peel. Having various types of chemical peels available which cause different degrees of peeling, allows us to customize treatment plans that meet the individual need for everyone’s different and unique skincare concerns.

The strength and depth of the treatment is controlled by our trained professionals based on the number of layers applied during the treatment. After the peel application, nutritive topicals, calming agents and broad-spectrum SPF products are applied, and the patient leaves with a glowing, healthy complexion. This technique can be less stressful for both the clinician and the patient.

Chemical peels are effective for treating skin conditions including:

  • Age spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Shallow acne scars
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Pigment concerns

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do before a chemical peel?

Stop all topical treatments three days prior to your appointment – this includes prescriptions, topical medications, such as Differin, Tazorac, bleaching creams and retinols.

Your skin might be sensitive after your chemical peel.

You should avoid waxing and exfoliating for one week prior to your chemical peel.

What happens during a chemical peel?

At the time of your appointment, your skin will be cleansed. Depending on the type of peel you are having, you may experience some mild stinging or burning. Your skin may appear slightly pink and it is possible to see white frost on the skin. This will dissipate over the next few hours. If you had a stronger peel, the pinkness may persist for a few days. Prior to leaving the office a sunscreen may be applied to your face.

How should I take care of my skin after my chemical peel?

Gently wash your face with a mild cleanser, use a gentle moisturizer both morning and night for the first 3 days after your peel. Once your skin begins to peel, avoid picking at the flaking skin (this can cause hyperpigmentation). Your skin may be sensitive after your chemical peel. Avoid sun exposure for the first week and it is necessary to be diligent about wearing sunscreen daily to protect your skin.

How often should I have chemical peels?

Chemical peels can be done every 3 to 4 weeks, depending on your individual needs and skincare goals. For best results, chemical peels should be done in a series. Talk with your esthetician about the proper skincare regimen to ensure you are optimizing the benefits of your chemical peels and overall health of your skin.
